Elena Dorfman
Elena is an Albanian-American visual artist who has been photographing throughout Albania since 1993. Her first trip reconnected her with extended family, all of whom lived in forced isolation from 1945 until 1991. Her career has taken her all over the world shooting assignments for magazines that include the New Yorker, The New York Times, Time, Sierra and Marie Claire.
Elena has lived in the Middle East while working for the United Nations and other NGO’s. Through it all she’s continued her practice in fine art photography, regularly exhibiting in galleries and museums throughout the US and Europe. Her monographs include The C-Word: Teenagers and their Families Living with Cancer (NewSage, 1997), Here & Now: Stories of Survival (Avalon, 2000), Still Lovers (Channel, 2004), Fandomaina: Characters & Cosplay, (Aperture, 2007) and Empire Falling (Damiani, 2013).

Wide Angle is the name of Elena’s touring and teaching workshops. Albania is her second home. Introducing this unique and incredible country to like-minded creative travelers was born from the desire to share her experiences and deep, insider knowledge with other photographers and culture-seekers.
